Nominations for the Schrinner Council’s WasteSMART Brisbane Awards are now open, with two new award categories shining a spotlight on sustainability.
The annual awards program recognises the individuals, businesses and community groups who undertake waste smart activities, from recycling to repurposing and composting to clean-up events.
The new Circular Threads Award acknowledges the efforts undertaken by individuals and businesses reusing textiles through the circular economy.
The new Hospitality and Tourism Award recognises businesses improving their waste management systems to reduce waste sent to landfill.
A total of 11 award categories are opened for nominations today, including:
- WasteSMART Councillor’s Choice Award
- WasteSMART Local Legend Award
- WasteSMART Community Award
- WasteSMART Circular Threads Award (new award for 2024)
- WasteSMART Business Award
- WasteSMART Early Learning Award
- WasteSMART Schools Award
- WasteSMART Hospitality and Tourism Award (new award for 2024)
- Outstanding WasteSMART Award
- People’s Choice WasteSMART Award
- All-Star WasteSMART Award
Residents are encouraged to place their nomination on the WasteSMART Awards website before 31 August 2024.
Each category winner will be announced at the WasteSMART Brisbane Awards in November and will share in a prize pool of more than $4000.
