A black-and-white photo capturing resident’s emotions to the devastation of the 2022 Brisbane floods has won this year’s Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner congratulated the overall winner Indooroopilly resident Joe Ruckli, along with all category winners and entrants of this year’s awards.
“This year there were more than 1700 entries submitted with our talented photographers capturing the people and places of our city in incredible ways,” Cr Schrinner said.
“This year’s theme was the unique spaces, places and hidden gems that make our city great through the lens of the spirit of Brisbane.
It is incredibly inspiring to see all the way this year’s themes has been interpreted with the different categories providing opportunities for amateur and student photographers through to professionals.
From the recent floods to the iconic location of City Hall and the University of Queensland this year’s entrants have photographed locations most residents will know in different and thought-provoking ways.”

- Open category second runner-up, $1000 – Adrian Cooper
- Green Heart category, $1500 – Kyle Wassink
- Student category, $1500 – William Wang
- Social Media category, $1500 – Christo Brits
- LaVonne Bobongie Award, $1500 – Katherine Widders
- People’s Choice Award, $1500 – voting open now!
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the winner of the final category, the People’s Choice Award, was still to be determined.
“Every year we have one category where the people of Brisbane have their say and pick their favourite photo,” Cr Schrinner said.
“This year’s shortlist of 25 images includes a collection of photos that perfectly capture the spirit of Brisbane,” he said.
“Voting is open now until 4pm on Friday 19 August, so make sure you take a look and have your say before the winner is announced at the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 31 August 2022.”
