Additional sandbag locations are now open to support residents and businesses preparing for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Council staff and traffic controllers will be on site at the four extra locations at Acacia Ridge, Toowong, Camp Hill and Boondall.
Residents are advised to bring their own shovel and cable ties. Residents can bring their own bags if they have them.
We’ve been able to quickly activate these locations as the sites were pre-identified as part of our work to ensure Brisbane is prepared.
These sites are in addition to the normal 24/7 depot locations.
Around 100,000 sandbags were collected in the past three days. An incredible 74,000 sandbags were provided on Monday, which is the highest daily demand in Council history.
This easily exceeds the daily supply of sandbags during the 2022 flood, which saw a peak of 37,000 sandbags distributed in a single day.
24-hour sandbag production continues to deliver between 10,000 to 20,000 sandbags across the depots each day.
Feedback from queuing residents yesterday indicated many people were eager to fill their own sandbags to help bolster the work being done by council crews.
While sandbags will not stop flood water entirely they can reduce the amount of water entering a home or business.
It’s important residents take this threat of Cyclone Alfred seriously and get prepared, but I remind residents to be patient and to not take more sandbags than they need.
