Brisbane City Council’s popular ‘Daily Discoveries’ initiative has now launched as a free weekly program at three locations across Brisbane.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the program would help keep costs down for families while providing free nature-based activities and hands-on experiences for young children to enjoy.
“Brisbane has an incredible lifestyle and natural environment, and there’s nowhere better to discover this than at our Environment Centres,” Cr Schrinner said.
“The program previously ran as an impromptu pop-up session but it’s been so popular, with young families asking us to roll out regular sessions.
I’m excited to introduce free weekly sessions at three different locations to allow even more people to enjoy them.
Families can look forward to exciting nature-based games, scavenger hunts and chances to explore the wetlands.
Our incredible staff unveil something new and different each session, whether it’s tasting native honey, getting up and close with spiny leaf insects or learning about the flying patterns of migratory birds.”
Cr Schrinner said ‘Daily Discoveries’ was just one of the many free and affordable activities on Council’s calendar of events.
“As a father of four, I know how expensive it can be keeping kids entertained and that’s why we have hundreds of free and affordable activities on offer all year round,” he said.
“This is part of my commitment to make sure cost doesn’t get in the way of families enjoying everything Brisbane has to offer.”
Daily Discoveries will be entertaining visitors from 10.00am on the following days:
- Tuesdays – Boondall Wetland Environment Centre
- Thursdays – Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre
- Fridays – Downfall Creek Bushland Centre
