The Schrinner Council’s much-anticipated $2 Summer Dips is now just a month away.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said 15,000 Brisbane residents a day will save under the key cost-of-living initiative.
“We’re committed to keeping costs down for Brisbane residents and our $2 Summer Dips initiative is a key part of that,” Cr Schrinner said
“The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a super-hot summer and our Council pools will be the perfect place to beat the heat on a budget.
Whether you’re a regular lap swimmer or a family that loves taking the kids for a dip on those hot summer days, slashing pool prices will help residents have fun, stay active and save.”
Cr Schrinner confirmed the 2023/24 Budget cost-of-living initiatives, including $2 Summer Dips and $1-a-week green waste recycling bins, had been quarantined from Council’s 10 per cent sensible savings drive.
“We’re identifying sensible savings to put downward pressure on future rates,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Just like households are facing higher costs, so is Council.
However, we’re determined to prioritise our cost-of-living initiatives including $2 Summer Dips because they will benefit Brisbane residents when they need it the most.”
Under the $2 Summer Dips plan, Council will refund pool lessees the difference between their regular entry prices.
The $2 entry fee, which will apply to adults and children, will be unlimited, meaning residents can go as often as they want.
The $2 entry fee will also apply on public holidays.
From December 1 to February 29, an adult entry fee will be reduced to $2 from up to $6.40. For an adult who swims once a week during summer, the saving would be up to $57.20.
The cost of taking a family of four will fall to $8 from up to $20.15. A family who goes to their local pool six times throughout the summer will save up to $72.90.
Anyone accompanying a person with a disability who requires attendant care support will continue to get free entry.
