A local photographer’s sunset snap of the iconic Story Bridge has taken out the top spot in the 2024 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.

The 2024 competition theme ‘Brisbane in its best light’ inspired over 1700 submissions that revealed the people, places and experiences that make our city shine.

Snapper Nigel Cowdery was awarded first prize in the open category for his golden shot titled A Bridge Climb at Sunset, (picture featured above) which depicted a group of afternoon climbers on the Story Bridge.

Runner up Tapash Alister picked up second place with their shot Sun, which shows a new perspective of suburban Fairfield and Kylie Facey’s New Farm Park Roses blossomed in third place.

Voting is now open for residents to decide the final winner of the People’s Choice Award.

With 25 fantastic images in the running, residents are encouraged to visit the Council website and cast their vote to crown Brisbane’s winner.

Voting for the People’s Choice Award opens on Council’s website at 10am today and will close at 4pm on Friday 16 August 2024.

Residents can also peruse the pictures in person with the People’s Choice Award finalist photos and 2024 category winners on display at the Brisbane Square Library foyer from Monday 22 July to Friday 16 August.
