Brisbane residents will pay just $2 to enter Council’s 22 pools throughout summer.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner today confirmed pool entry prices will be slashed in the 2023-24 Council Budget to help tackle rising living costs.
“Our Council is committed to ensuring Brisbane residents have access to free and affordable events and activities,” Cr Schrinner said.
“Rising living costs are driving up bills, chewing into people’s disposable incomes and impacting their ability to undertake fun and healthy activities.
Slashing the cost of swimming at Council’s fantastic pools and aquatic centres is a big win for Brisbane residents.
Whether you’re a regular lap swimmer or a family that loves taking the kids for a dip on those hot summer days, slashing pool prices will help residents have fun, stay active and save.”
Under the $2 Summer Dips plan, Council will refund pool lessees the difference between their regular entry prices.
The $2 entry fee, which will apply to adults and children, will be unlimited, meaning residents can go as often as they want.
The $2 entry fee will also apply on public holidays.
From December 1 to February 29, an adult entry fee will be reduced to $2 from up to $6.40. For an adult who swims once a week during summer, the saving would be up to $57.20.
The cost of taking a family of four will fall to $8 from up to $20.15. A family who goes to their local pool six times throughout the summer will save up to $72.90.
Anyone accompanying a person with a disability who requires attendant care support will continue to get free entry.
Fifteen Council pools include children’s water play areas that feature slides, mushroom fountains, drop buckets, lily pads, worms, bubblers, and water jets.
Around 450,000 Brisbane residents a month, or almost 15,000 a day, visited Council pools last summer, demonstrating how popular the facilities are.
Cr Schrinner said taking children to the local pool helped build confidence around the water.
“As a father of four kids, I know how taking them swimming can really help them build respect and confidence in the water,” he said.
“I know a lot of families are struggling with rising costs and I hope our $2 Summer Dips will give them an affordable and fun activity this summer.”
