People’s trash can now be turned into cash for charities with three new high-tech rubbish bins now installed in the Queen Street Mall.
The new bins are installed in the heart of Brisbane’s busy shopping precinct and allow people to donate to Brisbane charities simply by recycling.
The new bins are located:
- Outside the Wintergarden entrance
- Outside the UpTown entrance
- Outside EzyMart on Albert Street
To donate, people scan the barcode of their container and if it is recyclable, 10 cents per recycled item will be donated to the city’s charity, The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust.
Since the 1950’s, The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust has been supporting the people of Brisbane through its grass root charities.
At the most recent Christmas Grant round, 94 Brisbane charities received a share of $250,000 worth of funding, grants and Christmas gifts to lift the spirits of people across our suburbs.
The new smart bins are developed by SULO and feature solar powered technology, which powers the recycling process.
