Tuesday 3 September – Continuum

Continuum is the newest jazz ensemble from Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, that draws inspiration from the philosophy of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers.

The purpose of this ensemble is musical director James Sandon’s vision for fostering excellence through growth and development of essential skills in musicianship, improvisation, composition and leadership in jazz performance.

The band combines jazz students from all year levels of the Conservatorium program to cultivate shared experiences with a deep appreciation of this music.

Tuesday 10 September – Interstellar with Roger Sayer

Virtuosic and versatile, international organ star Roger Sayer was chosen by the iconic composer Hans Zimmer to create the prominent organ role for Christopher Nolan’s gripping film Interstellar.

Recorded at Temple Church, London in 2014, where he was Director of Music, Sayer marks the music’s 10th anniversary and global impact with this performance as part of his worldwide tour.

Sayer shares his experience of working with two living geniuses of cinema before playing his version of the soundtrack. Performances in Australia and several European countries have already received enthusiastic acclaim. One listener observed, “If Hans Zimmer is the heart of Interstellar, then you, Sir, are its soul.”

The program includes other space-related music, including movements from Holst’s The Planets. A thrilling event not to be missed!

Tuesday 17 September – Making Daybreak

A stunning voice on the international scene, Pauline Maudy is an accomplished French-Australian songwriter and performer who embraces music that promotes human connection. For this concert, she presents songs inspired by human resilience crafted in collaboration with internationally renowned composer Robert Davidson. Together, they weave the human experience into a collection of soulful songs, conjuring melodies and lyrics that delve into hardship, strength, and connection. The songs are brought to life by Black Square String Quartet, bolstering Pauline’s powerful vocals.

Pauline Maudy was named Artist of the Year in the Australian Folk Music Awards Award for her contribution to folk music in Australia and abroad and has received multiple Queensland Music Awards for her songwriting.

Tuesday 24 September – Lord Mayor’s Senior’s Cabaret Showcase: Create, Rehearse, Succeed!

Following on from their successful masterclasses, some of Brisbane’s most talented seniors along with special guest, Renae Suttie, they will be dancing, singing and setting the stage alight.

Enjoy a variety of music styles that will keep you entertained.

Tuesday 1 October – A Showcase of Opera, Operetta and Musical Theatre

Performed by talented classical voice students from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, this concert showcases opera, operetta and music theatre repertoire.

You will hear well-loved opera classics by Mozart, Puccini, Bizet, Rossini, Delibes and Monteverdi and light-hearted operetta and Gilbert & Sullivan including The Laughing Song and Champagne Trio from Die Fledermaus along with Poor Wand’ring One and the Pirate King. Music Theatre treats include selections from Anything Goes, Carousel, Kismet, My Fair Lady and The Student Prince.

This is a concert to delight your senses and send you out humming for the rest of the afternoon.

Tuesday 15 October – Michelle Rau Duo

THIS CONCERT WILL BE AUSLAN INTERPRETED.

Michelle Rau, a songstress with roots planted in the vibrant rhythms of South Africa, embarked on her journey from Adelaide to the bustling streets of Brisbane five years ago. With her soulful voice as her compass and her acoustic guitar as her guide, Michelle weaves tales of love, connection, and healing through her music.

Michelle’s passion for music stems from her belief in music as a universal language that connects people and serves as a form of therapy. Her performances, influenced by iconic artists such as the Dixie Chicks, Kacey Musgrave, Fleetwood Mac, Norah Jones and Etta James, resonate with sincerity and authenticity.

While her heart beats for her family, her partner, and her newborn daughter, Michelle’s love for music knows no bounds. As she embraces the joy of motherhood, she hopes to pass on her musical legacy to her daughter, nurturing her love for melody and rhythm.

Tuesday 22 October – The Barleyshakes

Adored throughout Australia and beyond for their refreshing Irish sound, The Barleyshakes are winners of the Queensland Music Award for World Music. Recently returned from their tours of New Zealand, Outback Queensland and Far North Queensland, the Shakes are keen to air lots of new material as well as old favourites.

Ever since their inception in the 90’s in Dublin, The Barleyshakes have been turning heads. Their mission has always been to inject new life into Irish music while honouring the traditions of the past. Their live shows have taken them around the globe and they continue to take audiences on a joy filled ride wherever they perform.

Tuesday 5 November – Jay Hoad

THIS CONCERT WILL BE AUSLAN INTERPRETED.

THIS CONCERT IS IN ITHACA AUDITORIUM WITH LIMITED SEATING.

Jay has independently toured 42 countries with his unique show featuring him on over 20 instruments. He has performed and presented at many of the biggest music festivals around the world, including Glastonbury Festival 2024 (UK), and he won ‘best event’ for the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

He has performed and toured with Bob Marley’s ‘The Wailers’, The Temptations, Blood Sweat and Tears, as well as performing at festivals on stage alongside artists including Jack Johnson, Michael Franti, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) and many more.

Tuesday 19 November – The Inadequates

The Inadequates are an award-winning trio known for their energetic performances and innovative acoustic sound. Growing rapidly within the Australian folk scene, they have been likened to bands such as Nickel Creek, Mumford & Sons and Punch Brothers (but much worse). With a catalogue of intricate original music focusing on their tight 3-part harmonies and technical skill, the boys are currently producing their first album which they plan on releasing within the next year (to rave reviews). They perform in their signature bright suits and feature banjo, mandolin, guitar, and accordion, and have become festival favourites at a variety of folk festivals across Australia.

Tuesday 26 November – Tribute to Buddy Holly

The Australian Buddy Holly Show is an entertaining tribute to one of the pioneers of rock n roll. Starring Kris Knight who brings Buddy back to life, accompanied by his four-piece band of drums, guitar, stand up bass, keyboard and saxophone.

Kris has performed around the world, and also regularly guest entertains on luxury cruise ships, including Princess, Oceanic and Celebrity lines. This 60-minute show features Buddy’s hits including ‘Oh Boy’, ‘Rave On’, ‘That’ll Be The Day’, as well as beautiful ballads like ‘Raining In My Heart’, ‘True Love Ways’, and ‘Everyday’.

This is real old time rock n roll!
