Tuesday 18 March – The Honeysliders – 1969: The Music

The Honey Sliders are bringing the sights and sounds of 1969 back to life – live on stage, in front of a vivid screen projection, playing the soundtrack to the events that marked the end of the most tumultuous decade of the twentieth century.

Famously, 1969 gave us the ‘peace and love’ of Woodstock, only a month after the world stopped to watch Neil Armstrong take his giant leap onto the moon’s surface. It was the year The Beatles released their last album Abbey Road. Movies like Easy Rider and Midnight Cowboy broke new territory, ushering in a new generation of rogue film makers. 1969 also witnessed the end of flower power as The Rolling Stones and The Hell’s Angels raised the devil at their free concert in Altamont – all this happened while the Vietnam and Cold Wars raged. The Honey Sliders will play the soundtrack to these events and more, in front of a movie projection that pulls you through space and time – right back to ’69.

The band is well known for bringing spectacular shows to City Hall, including The Beatles Rooftop Concert and Neil Young’s Harvest, and 1969 is sure to blow the roof off!

Tuesday 25 March – Martes en Marte

This performance spans vocal acapella moments, to a full salsa ‘orquesta’, with timbales, a conga section, bongos, bass, pianist, and horn section. Martes enMarte will present a selection of well-known Afro-Cuban traditional works, both sacred and secular, originals, and some Afro-Cuban reimagining’s of Jazz standards. The audience will be able to listen and relax as well as explode into dance during this spectacular celebration of Cuban, Latin and African rhythms and melodies!

Tuesday 1 April – Mariana Verna

This concert will be ASLAN interpreted.

Mariana Verna is an up-and-coming jazz and contemporary singer in Meanjin, Brisbane, with nearly 10 years of performing under her belt. Studying at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University sparked her love of jazz, after growing up in a household that supported her interest in music since she first played the piano at age 6.

Some highlights of her career include performing with Australian legends John Farnham, Katie Noonan and Kate Cebrano at the Southbank Piazza as part of the 2017 Brisbane Music Festival and performing at Fortitude Music Hall in support of the Carer’s Foundation as part of the 2024 Unsung Heroes Event. Mariana has also been incredibly lucky to perform at iconic Brisbane venues such The Burrow, The Walrus Club, and QPAC.

Her influences include vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, April Varner, Julie London, and Kurt Elling, fostering a love of Vocalese in which lyrics are set to a pre-existing instrumental solo. Tuesday 29 April – Go the Distance: Tenori

This concert will be AUSLAN interpreted.

Andrew, David and Stewart have travelled a great distance doing what they love. In their new show, they open their treasure trove of songs and stories from the road. Go the Distance explores their fascination with exotic locales and tall tales (with the occasional true story).

The three met while touring internationally with The Ten Tenors, performing in venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall, The Pantages Theatre in LA and the Sydney Opera House. After some time apart working with Opera Australia, Opera Queensland and many of the country’s finest orchestras, they are back together doing what they do best.

Tenori has quickly established a formidable reputation and is known for juxtaposing high-quality singing with a large dash of cheeky humour. They are equally at home crooning with a solo piano in a cabaret bar or rocking out with a big band onboard the iconic Queen Mary 2.

Individually, they have beautiful voices. Together they sing like the band of brothers they are, with the camaraderie and precision that more than a decade of harmonising together can bring.
