Council facilities and services to change under Stage 3 relaxation of restrictions

Brisbane City Council wishes to advise residents of changes to some facilities and services from midday, 3 July 2020, under Stage 3 of the State Government’s roadmap to easing restrictions.

 

To ensure the safety of staff and residents, and to abide by State Government regulations, enhanced safety and social distancing measures will remain in place.

 

Libraries

 

All 33 Council libraries will increase attendance capacity to 1 person per 4 sqm to:

  • Access and browse the library collections where social distancing can be maintained – customers will be asked to sanitise their hands before handling any collection items on the shelves
  • Enjoy easy internet access from our PCs through either an express 15-minute session or limited access 30-minute session
  • Enjoy wi-fi access from your own device
  • Printing and mobile printing services are available
  • Access the lost property service at Brisbane Square Library
  • Return borrowed items
  • Access limited library seating and quiet rooms, marked with limits for the number of people permitted in these spaces
  • Browse and read from the newspaper and MagRack collections in the library
  • Pick up holds when ready for collection – no hold fees will apply

 

Please note:

    • library operating hours differ across the sites and customers should check the opening hours of their local library before attending
    • The number of people permitted within individual libraries at any one time will be dependent on floor size; configuration of different spaces; distances between shelving; joinery; furniture; computers and service areas; and paths of travel within each library
    • Please observe signage at the library entrance for details of a library’s capacity limit.

 

Activities, recreation and gatherings

  • Community halls for non-contact activities for one person per 4 square metres with a COVID Safe Plan
  • Active and Healthy program sessions will return to standard operations, with social distancing measures to remain in place in accordance with State Government regulations
  • Council environment centres will increase visitor numbers to 1 person per 4 sqm in display areas at any one time, and regular cleaning will be undertaken between visitors
  • Outdoor Cinema in the Suburbs will remain suspended until August 31
  • Visible Ink will increase bookings, in accordance with 1 person per 4 sqm in line with State Government regulations
  • Guided walks and tours in Brisbane city parks remain suspended until further notice
  • Up to 100 people may now attend funerals and memorial services at Council’s cemeteries, crematoriums and chapels
  • Education at the Gardens at Mt Coot-tha has reopened in accordance with advice from Education Queensland and is now taking bookings for Semester 2

 

City Hall facilities/events

  • The 50 Plus Centre will remain closed until further notice
  • The Red Cross Café will remain closed until further notice
  • The Lord Mayor’s City Hall concerts will remain suspended until further notice
  • Shingle Inn will reopen from 15 July.

 

Public transport

  • Rear boarding on buses and the no cash policy on buses, CityCats and ferries will remain in place
  • Existing safety measures on all buses, CityCats and ferries will remain in place in accordance with Translink’s Social Distancing Guidelines

 

Council facilities

  • Sir Thomas Planetarium will increase attendance numbers to 28 (NB: Planetarium is fully booked for school holidays)
  • Seven Hills Hub, Jolly Centre (rehearsal room and studio workshop space) will increase capacity and the Ron Hurley Theatre will reopen for up to 50% capacity or one person per 4 square metres (whichever is the greater), with a COVID Safe Plan
  • The Sunnybank Performing Arts and Cultural Centre (SunPAC) will reopen on 12 July
  • Museum of Brisbane will reopen from 15 July. City Hall Tours and Clock Tower Tours will recommence from 20 July. Bookings will be essential and can be made from 3 July
