Brisbane residents can now vote on their favourite designs from the annual Artforce competition, which transforms traffic signal boxes into vibrant street artwork.
The 84 entries pushed the creativity to new levels, with designs featuring colourful patterns inspired by our suburbs to a kangaroo caricature abseiling down the Kangaroo Point Cliffs.
Voting for the 2024 People’s Choice award is now open and will close on 28 February.
Altogether, 70 volunteers, 8 families and 11 organisations helped bring the artworks to life.
Participants were of all ages and levels of artistic experience, and included school students, members of community groups and local businesses.
Some of the artworks were hand-painted on electrical boxes, while others were applied with a vinyl wrap.
Each one was made to reflect the character, environment, culture, and history of the area it belongs to.
The People’s Choice vote is one of 9 award categories recognising the competition’s most outstanding entries.
The other categories will be judged according to their artistic merit, connection to site, and connection to community.
Artforce started in 1999 to improve the appearance of electrical boxes, reduce graffiti, and support Brisbane’s emerging art community.
Since then, more than 5500 volunteers have transformed more than 2500 boxes.
